General Questions

Yes! Virginia-authorized remote notary sessions are legally recognized in all 50 U.S. states thanks to interstate recognition laws and the Full Faith and Credit clause of the U.S. Constitution. Our remote online notarization is compliant with Virginia law, which is recognized nationwide.

Remote online notarization has been further reinforced by the passage of the SECURE Notarization Act and similar state laws across the country. Your documents will have the same legal standing as traditional in-person notarization.

Online notarization works through a simple process:

  1. You schedule an appointment and upload your documents
  2. At the scheduled time, you join a secure video call with our notary
  3. The notary verifies your identity using government-issued ID and knowledge-based authentication
  4. You electronically sign your documents during the video session
  5. The notary applies their electronic notary seal and signature
  6. You receive your legally notarized documents via email

The entire process creates a secure audit trail and tamper-evident seal that provides even greater security than traditional paper notarization.

Most common documents can be notarized online, including:

  • Power of Attorney
  • Affidavits
  • Real estate documents
  • Financial documents
  • Medical authorizations
  • Business agreements
  • Title transfers
  • Wills and trusts (in most states)

There are a few document types that may require in-person notarization in certain jurisdictions, such as some estate planning documents in specific states. If you're unsure about your specific document, please contact us for clarification.

Technical Requirements

For a successful online notarization session, you'll need:

  • Valid government-issued photo ID (driver's license, passport, etc.)
  • A device with a working camera and microphone (computer, tablet, or smartphone)
  • Stable internet connection
  • Your document(s) uploaded before the session or available in digital format
  • A quiet, well-lit space where you can speak privately

If there are multiple signers, each person needs to be present during the video call with their own valid ID.

We use state-approved, encrypted platforms for our online notarization sessions, including BlueNotary, Zoom, and OneNotary. These platforms are specifically designed for secure remote notarization and comply with all legal requirements for maintaining privacy and creating legally binding notarized documents.

The platform is browser-based, so you don't need to download any software. You'll simply click the link in your appointment confirmation email to join the session.

Yes, online notarizations are extremely secure, often more secure than traditional paper notarizations. Our process includes:

  • Multi-factor identity verification
  • Knowledge-based authentication questions
  • End-to-end encrypted video sessions
  • Tamper-evident digital seals
  • Comprehensive audit trails
  • Secure document storage with encryption
  • Compliance with GDPR, SOC 2, and other security standards

The digital certification and blockchain technologies used in remote online notarization provide enhanced security features that make document tampering virtually impossible and verification straightforward.

Process & Scheduling

Most online notarization sessions take approximately 10-15 minutes to complete. The exact time depends on the number and complexity of documents, the number of signers, and if there are any special requirements.

We recommend scheduling a 30-minute appointment to ensure you have ample time for identity verification, document review, and the notarization process. For complex documents or multiple signers, you may want to schedule a longer session.

You'll receive your digitally notarized documents via email immediately after the notarization session is complete, typically within minutes of completing the process. The documents will include all required electronic seals, signatures, and certifications.

If you need physical copies with wet signatures, we can mail these to you for an additional fee. Please specify this requirement when booking your appointment.
